Janel Alania is a Partner in HDRB&B’s Litigation Department. She focuses her practice on business litigation, representing individual and corporate clients in complex commercial matters, closely held business disputes, and business divorce. She also represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trusts and estates litigation, including will contests and actions for breach of fiduciary duty. Janel’s clients appreciate her sophisticated and effective approach to advocacy, and her creative and compassionate approach to conflict resolution. She practices in the state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey, and in national arbitration forums.
Janel’s prior practice includes work with HDRB&B’s Matrimonial & Family Department, during which time she was trained in Collaborative Divorce. This unique approach to marriage dissolution enables divorcing spouses, working with their attorneys and neutral mental health and financial professionals, to craft individualized resolutions to their financial and custodial issues. Prior to joining HDRB&B, Janel formed and managed her own law firm, where she worked with individual and small business clients on matters related to the formation and operations of New Jersey businesses and provided litigation consulting services to other small law firms. Janel has also completed the New York Commercial Division Mediation Training and Advanced Commercial Division Mediation Training.
Prior to embarking on her legal career, Janel worked in public relations for a variety of entities, including a publicly traded online retailer, Jewish non-profit organizations, and an international youth hostel. Janel is also a Certified Yoga Instructor (RYT 200), active school and community volunteer, and very proud parent.
