Angela G. Kim is the Chair of HDRB&B’s Matrimonial and Family Law Department. Her clients rely on her at critical – and often profoundly upsetting – moments in their lives. Angela handles a wide range of matrimonial and family law matters, including marriage dissolution (divorce), property distribution, child custody, spousal support, child support and matrimonial agreements (prenuptial, post-nuptial and separation). A key part of Angela’s practice centers on economics and personal financial matters in an effort to secure equitable treatment for her clients. She regularly works with forensic accountants, business valuators and other experts to uncover hidden assets, quantify the value – and assess the income-producing potential – of various financial instruments and business entities, and to identify intangible assets with likely present or future economic value. With admissions in both New York and New Jersey, Angela is a resource both to HDRBB clients and to other attorneys.
Angela chose to practice law because people are important to her; she wanted to belong to a profession where she could have a positive impact on lives and bring something back to the community. During law school, she sought an array of internship and work experiences, including with Legal Aid and the Kings County (NY) District Attorney. Angela was first exposed to family law during a clerkship with the Honorable Joseph C. Cassini, III in the Superior Court of New Jersey. Judge Cassini noted that her combination of compassion and tenacious advocacy made her exceptionally well-suited to the practice of family and matrimonial law.
Prior to HDRB&B, Angela was a partner in the Matrimonial Law Group at Weinstein, Lindemann & Weinstein, PC, where she became partner after just five years. Subsequently, Angela moved her practice to a New York firm, Chemtob, Moss & Forman LLP prior to joining HDRBB in 2014.
In the often highly emotional environment surrounding family law issues, Angela is unfailingly warm with her clients, but both forthright and firm with the opposing side. She believes that it is in the best interests of divorcing parties and related matters to hammer out their own solutions, rather than having answers imposed by the courts. She helps clients remain focused on their desired outcomes and gives her all in an effort to achieve them. Angela is an agile and capable litigator but is highly adept at defusing litigious situations. Clients who engage Angela find that she is a soothing guide through a complex and difficult process and readily available to answer questions or lend an ear. She is proud that many of her client relationships have developed into continuing friendships over the years.
Angela frequently lectures at the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education and at Continuing Legal Education Programs sponsored by the New York State Bar-Family Law Section.
Angela came to the United States from Seoul, Korea with her family when she was five years old and family remains central to her life. During her free time, Angela loves to plan family outings and cultural trips with her husband and three sons.
