HDRB&B is excited to announce that Thomas (“Tom”) S. Kearney has joined the firm as a Partner in the firm’s Criminal Defense and Litigation Departments. A veteran trial attorney with nearly three decades of courtroom experience, Tom brings to the firm a rare combination of federal and state prosecutorial insight and extensive defense and litigation experience.
Before joining HDRB&B, Tom served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he was assigned to the Special Prosecutions Division, National Security Unit, and Organized Crime/Gangs Unit. In these roles, he led and tried numerous high-profile matters involving political corruption, racketeering, terrorism, public corruption, money laundering, and large-scale narcotics trafficking, many of which attracted regional and national attention. His experience also includes coordinating multi-agency task forces, wiretaps, and undercover operations, as well as managing complex white-collar investigations involving tax, bank, wire, insurance, and disability fraud. Tom also served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Bergen County, experience that now informs his ability to anticipate government tactics and build strategic defenses.

Over the course of his career, Tom has tried more than 50 cases to verdict and has been recognized for his distinguished public service with commendations from the FBI, the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Beyond his criminal defense work, Tom’s practice also spans commercial litigation, employment disputes, and internal investigations.
Tom is a graduate of Yale University and Seton Hall University School of Law, and served as law clerk to the Hon. James T. Murphy of the Superior Court of New Jersey. Outside of his practice, Tom is actively involved in the community through The Police Pipes and Drums of Bergen County, the Yale Football Association, and the Ignatian Spirituality Project.
