Michele-Lee Shapiro is a highly skilled litigator with extensive experience representing individuals and organizations in a broad array of complex civil matters. Her practice focuses on Commercial Litigation and Trusts and Estates Litigation, resolving diverse matters spanning corporate divorce, contract disputes, antitrust issues, e-commerce conflicts, and fraud and consumer fraud claims. She also brings a depth of appellate experience, offering clients the advantage of her strategic insight at every stage of a case.

Before joining HDRB&B, Michele-Lee practiced at Brown Moskowitz & Kallen, P.C., and previously at Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. Earlier in her career, she served as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and clerked for the late Hon. Herman D. Michels, then Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey.

Drawing on her participation in her family’s successful performing arts business, Michele-Lee has a unique perspective on the challenges facing small businesses and the need for cost-conscious, effective counsel. Michele-Lee places great importance on mentoring the next generation of lawyers. In addition to previously teaching Legal Research and Writing as an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall Law School, she continues to provide guidance to prospective and enrolled law students as they prepare for their academic and professional journeys.

  • Represented private lender and secured appellate decision affirming the enforceability of “pay-when-able” loans in New Jersey.
  • Represented e-commerce business in multiple matters concerning antitrust issues and logistics-related disputes.
  • Represented physicians’ practice group through successful appellate outcome in matter concerning an employment agreement and insurance coverage.
  • Represented physician in minority shareholder oppression claims and corporate divorce issues.
  • Represented clients in complex trusts and estates litigation including actions to appoint substituted executors, administrators, and trustees, and to resolve distributions of estate bequests and trust proceeds.
  • Represented international logistics corporation in connection with conversion, theft, and related claims, as well as specialized freight and shipping issues.
  • Represented homeowners in prosecution of claims under New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act premised on truth-in-advertising claims.
  • Represented various clients in the performing arts industry on a variety of matters, including Broadway performers and playwrights.
  • As a Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor, represented the State of New Jersey in numerous criminal appellate matters.
  • In association with the American Civil Liberties Union, Michele-Lee was co-counsel on a federal Section 1983 litigation that addressed civil rights, Fourth Amendment, and qualified immunity issues, resulting in a Third Circuit decision that mandated substantial changes to Pennsylvania drug interdiction protocols.
  • By special arrangement with the Barrister’s Chambers of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in London, England, Michele-Lee assisted with the representation of British criminal defendants.
