HDRB&B is excited to announce that Joshua C. Gillette has joined the firm as Partner in its Litigation and Criminal Defense Departments. Josh has spent more than 30 years litigating cases at the highest levels, representing businesses, corporate executives, financial services professionals, and high-net-worth individuals. His practice spans complex commercial litigation, white collar defense, securities enforcement, government investigations, and appeals.
Josh is also the immediate Past President (2025-26) of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey (ACDL-NJ), the state’s principal criminal defense bar association. In that role he led an amicus effort and coordinated defense litigation successfully challenging the appointments of the leadership of the New Jersey United States Attorney’s Office, culminating in disqualification rulings by the trial court and Third Circuit.
“Josh has the kind of judgment that only comes from decades of handling the toughest, highest-stakes cases,” said Paul S. Doherty, III, Managing Partner of HDRB&B. “He led ACDL-NJ through one of the most consequential criminal defense challenges New Jersey has seen in recent years. That tells you everything about the caliber of lawyer he is.”
Josh has tried and argued cases in federal and state courts in New York, New Jersey, and across the country. On the commercial side, he handles fraud, breach of contract, shareholder and fiduciary disputes, and employment litigation. His white-collar work covers criminal investigations and prosecutions, internal investigations, SEC proceedings, and matters with overlapping civil, criminal, and regulatory exposure. He also maintains an active appellate practice, having briefed and argued before state and federal appellate courts, including the New Jersey Supreme Court and the Third Circuit.
Josh earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated cum laude from Columbia University.
